Our Mission
Medigene's mission is to provide a platform for doctors patients to easily access their genetic data and data analysis for medical reference. The most important part, though, is that we want to better treatment plans by providing the genetic data to both doctors and patients so that the patient gets the most personalized and efficient care possible.
Our Inspiration
Sebastiana Manuel was just an infant when she began having violent seizures to the point where she wouldn't eat. Her body wasn't responsive to three different types of anti seizure medication. Her doctors were stumped. But she wasn't the only infant experiencing this. Roughly 3% of the 11,000 babies born every day have a genetic disease that stump their doctors.
Sebastiana's DNA was sent for genetic testing at Rady Children's Institute for Genomic Medicine. There, the researchers used a new approach by implementing AI and Natural Language Processing to sequence her DNA and pinpoint where the issues were. They did this in just 20 hours compared to the average 48 hours. The efficiency of this helped to treat her quicker and ultimately save her life.
